Dragon Tanto - shiminagashi
I cranked up the goth/ninja vibes on this dark beauty all wrapped up in her ancient garb and decked out with that antiqued silver
Though this tanto is a modern interpretation, I employed some older methods for construction that I like, including custom fitting the saya sheath with cork for a super snug fit and a satisfying deployment !
I am psyched to be incorporating more inlay in my work and am very happy with the direction I’m going with this one!

Specs:
Full tang construction in Shuminagashi w/ vg10 core at 60hrc
8.5” overall length
4.8 oz (blade only) - balance is just behind the handle transition
4mm thick spine (weight relief in handle)
4” blade hollow ground with a top swedge, not sharpened
4.5” handle with faceted ancient bog oak (~7kya) scales on blue stabilized maple liners, affixed with hidden carbon fiber pin construction, lanyard tube, and silver/cooper shibuchi menuki inlaid in both handle and matching say.
both handle and sheath are made from a single piece of this precious ancient wood !
